Vivart Product Review

I had been searching for a pan watercolor set comparable to one I keep ‘borrowing’ from my daughter which is no longer available. For a student starter set I was amazed at how saturated with pigment the colors were and I liked the variety of colors, the amount was generous, they wet well and I like the metal case.

I finally settled on this set of 48 vivid watercolor half pans by Vivart. There is no swatch card but there is a color chart.

It comes with a watercolor pad, 300 GSM that did not buckle when wet and has a nice texture, however it is probably not cotton.

The case is sturdy, versatile and not too big although it is plastic.  There is a removable palette and the pans seem to be magnetic, all were easily removable. There are no single pan replacements available once a color runs out but the amount seems generous and they are very creamy when wet.

For art journaling, mixed media, sketchbooks or other paper crafts this set met my requirements and at only $20 I felt the quality exceeded my expectations especially the vivid colors.

If you are a pro familiar with Windsor and Newton at least you almost certainly will be able to tell these are not professional watercolors. There is no info on the pans or packaging about color grades. Some colors behave more like gouache than watercolor, that could be an inherent desired formula result if you like ‘Japanese’ watercolors like Kuretake but I don’t know.

I wanted this set to offset the cost of using my more expensive watercolors and for the price I feel it will do fine.

Some reviewers mentioned they could not access the e-course but this set had an 83% positive rating.

Happy paper crafting!
