Wrapping Paper Folk Art
Leftover Christmas wrapping paper is perfect for making whimsical or primitive folk art. The patterns and colors complement each other making it easy to create stylish master boards. Just differ the pattern as a base for your focal point and add some doodles. For a nostalgic keepsake showcase your favorite vintage wrapping paper.
For this project you’ll need some wrapping paper cut into large pieces and thin strips and a base to glue them on. Packaging is perfect. You’ll also need some glue.
Create two master boards. One is for your background and the other is for die cutting or cutting your focal point. For your background master board choose your largest pieces and make some random arrangements on your base.
Arrange your thin strips in rows and glue them onto your second base. Die cut or cut these pieces for your focal point shapes.
Some ideas:
- hearts
- cups
- stars
- wreath
- bird
- ornament
- mitten
If you want to frame your artwork cut your large master board to fit the size of your frame. Glue your focal point to your base and doodle if desired. Place in your frame for instant Christmas decor.
You can also make cards, tags, or postcards with your folk art design.
