DIY Tape Transfer Washi

Make beautiful creations like buttons, charms, beads, bookmarks, tabs and more with your own DIY washi tape. All you’ll need are some magazines, a shallow container of water, transparent or invisible office tape, glue and base materials of your choice.

Begin by choosing your magazine images, glossy or matte it doesn’t matter. Find colors and patterns you like, cut them out and layer strips of tape on top. You can burnish your tape with a bone folder or other suitable tool if you wish. Place in water for a short time, every magazine is different so you’ll have to experiment. Remove from the water and peel your magazine layer off the tape. Your magazine layer might take a little scrubbing with your fingers to remove the paper completely.

Since most of the tape adhesive will have dissolved you’ll have to choose a glue to make other projects. You can layer your tape to get some transparent effects like plaids or stripes.

Tips:

Cut out your images with die cuts or punches after your project is completely dry but make sure they are sharp or you might have issues cutting through the tape.

This is an easy DIY project that anyone can do requiring only common household items.

Make some beautiful DIY washi tape today and see what you can create.

Happy paper crafting!
