Easy Specimen Slides

Join me as I make easy specimen slides ephemera using beautiful floral designs as the base for a twist while the text paper with a tab is used for the slide. These simple projects are beautiful for spring or Easter.

What you’ll need:

2.5″ x 5″ strip card stock, scrapbook or heavier paper

2 1/4″ squares for the insert, card stock, scrapbook or heavier paper

Some scraps for tabs

1 1/2″ punch

Scotch tape, washi tape or a paper channel

Glue or glue stick to adhere your digitals to your base, you can use scrapbook paper or plain card stock if you desire.

Begin by cutting your base strips and inserts at 2.5″ x 5″ and 2 1/4″ squares. Apply your digitals to the base. Fold in half or score and fold at 2.5″ . Use a circle guide as shown in the video tutorial or just align your punch to the center of one side of your folded card and punch out a circle. The back of the card will not be punched.

With the fold on the left align your tape to the top and bottom of your card, fold over and burnish. Cut off the excess tape. Instead of gluing like a pocket you now have more room to insert your slide into the opening.

Apply your digital to your 2 1/4″ square and add a tab to one end. Both the channel and the tab will make your slide easier to insert and remove. Decorate as desired, add a butterfly or some other focal point to your insert. The back can be left blank for a hidden journaling spot. Write a little note on the slide and tuck these into an Easter basket, gift or card.

Along with the tags and embellishments shown in the video these easy specimen slides will add a little extra to any paper project.

Happy paper crafting!
